Portrait Encounter Record — 082-V
Designation: Naked Vamp Bust
Record type: Adult visitor portrait; appearance and lighting observations
Working question: Which visible features belong to the sitter, and which belong to the conditions of the portrait?
Records
The sitter examined the lighting arrangement before taking their place.
“Can we keep the violet shadows?” they asked.
Omb adjusted the lamp, then offered the mirror.
Z. Omb
“Like this?”
The sitter turned their head slightly.
“Yes. And the hair needs room.”
I widened the portrait outline.
Records
“The curls have already negotiated more space than the shoulders.”
Z. Omb
“They are contributing a substantial part of the silhouette.”
The adult sitter had chosen a nude bust portrait. We agreed on the framing before drawing: head, shoulders and upper torso, with the lower body outside the composition.
The archive would preserve that distinction. A portrait ending below the chest did not establish that the sitter’s body ended there.
Records
“Bust describes the picture.”
Z. Omb
“Exactly.”
The sitter settled into the pose. Under the arranged light, their skin showed cool blue-violet shadows and broad pale highlights.
I wrote metallic appearance.
Omb glanced at the entry.
Z. Omb
“As a description of the sheen, perhaps. We have not established a material.”
Records
“You saw the shoulder.”
Z. Omb
“I did. So did the lamp.”
With the sitter’s agreement, Omb shifted the lamp a little. The bright patch moved across the shoulder. The sitter remained still.
We restored the preferred lighting.
Records
“Highlight follows the light.”
Z. Omb
“Useful. Keep the observation beside the appearance note.”
The hair presented a finer pattern: bright magenta streaks crossed curved sections of deep purple. When the sitter turned towards the mirror, the streaks changed position and width.
Records
“Colour change?”
Z. Omb
“Possibly a change in reflected light over differently oriented strands. We need a stable view before deciding the hair itself changed colour.”
The sitter smiled.
“It takes work to make it look effortless.”
Records
“May I put that in the grooming notes?”
“Please do.”
Omb drew a small sequence showing the curl’s contour and the shifting highlight. The portrait retained the most vivid arrangement, chosen by the sitter.
Their red irises stayed visible between dark pupils and pale reflections.
Records
“Any trouble with the lamps?”
“No. That one is a little glaring.”
They indicated the nearer lamp.
Omb softened it.
Z. Omb
“Better?”
“Much.”
That was the extent of the lighting-comfort observation. We had no reason to turn a portrait sitting into an endurance test or extrapolate from an indoor lamp to sunlight.
The pointed ears remained unobstructed by the hair. Omb asked whether their contours could be included in a closer sketch.
The sitter agreed and tucked a curl back.
Records
“Do the ears move?”
“A little.”
One tip shifted, then returned.
Omb marked the two positions.
Z. Omb
“Thank you. That is enough for the drawing.”
The sitter relaxed their mouth, and two small fangs became visible.
I began a new heading.
Z. Omb
“What are you adding?”
Records
“Feeding—”
Z. Omb
“Visible dentition will do for this encounter.”
The sitter laughed.
“You could also ask what I had for lunch.”
Records
“Would you like that recorded?”
“No. I would like the mouth in the portrait to look less startled.”
We adjusted the sketch.
The designation “Vamp” remained in the catalogue. Diet, origin and physiology remained outside the findings of this sitting.
Near the end, Omb handed over the draft.
The sitter checked the face, ears and hair, then pointed at one shoulder.
“That highlight is too sharp.”
Omb softened its edge.
Records
“More accurate?”
“More like what I wanted.”
Z. Omb
“Both belong in the record. The portrait is an agreed representation, not a substitute for every observation.”
The sitter approved the revised composition.
