Z.O.M.B. Laboratories documentation

Z.O.M.B. LABORATORIES — BOTANICAL ACQUISITION 001

Fragaria × ananassa.

Strawberry.

Not a berry.

This is already unacceptable.

The strawberry is an aggregate accessory fruit. The structures commonly called its “seeds” are achenes, each derived from an individual ovary. This means that the things everyone has agreed to call seeds are actually fruits containing seeds and the red part everyone has agreed to call the fruit is largely enlarged receptacle tissue.

I have therefore been presented with a fruit whose fruit is not the fruit and whose seeds are fruits.

Botany has done this deliberately.

I briefly considered comparative analysis with the pomegranate, the many-eyed ophanim described in Ezekiel, and Argus Panoptes. The latter two comparisons were rejected because the achenes have demonstrated neither ocular function nor divine authority.

Testing continues.

CEREBROSCOPE STUDIO ADDENDUM:
Testing does not continue.

Dr. Omb was asked to document a strawberry for reproduction as a sticker. He was not authorized to establish a comparative theology programme.

The original strawberry was consumed during the investigation.
