Primary question: How much of a symbol survives when its defining geometry is removed but its component colors are preserved?

Records places the edition in front of Omb.

Records: Progress Pride.

Omb looks at it for several seconds.

Z. Omb: Not the flag.

Records: Progress Pride edition.

Z. Omb: Better.

The familiar chevron is absent.

Instead, the design has separated the original visual system into two components:

rainbow colors form the large surrounding frame.

black, brown, light blue, pink and white appear as horizontal bands at the sides.

Records

But you still know what it references.

Z. Omb

Yes.

Records

Then apparently the chevron wasn't mandatory.

Z. Omb

For recognition in this context, perhaps not.

That distinction becomes the whole experiment.

The original symbol uses both:

color identity
and
specific geometry

The Cerebroscope edition keeps much of the first while discarding much of the second.

Yet the reference may remain readable.

Z. Omb: This is not simple reduction.

Records: Why not?

Z. Omb: Because the information was reorganized rather than merely removed.

Records looks at the artwork again.

Records: Same ingredients. Different architecture.

Z. Omb: Exactly.

Omb separates the design into layers.

Layer 1: rainbow frame
Layer 2: black and brown bands
Layer 3: light blue, pink and white bands
Layer 4: central character and slogan

Then each layer is considered independently.

The rainbow alone reads broadly as Pride.

The black and brown alone do not communicate the full reference.

The blue, pink and white alone may evoke Trans Pride.

Together, however, they reconstruct much more of the Progress Pride association.

Records

So none of the pieces is the whole thing.

Z. Omb

Correct.

Records

But the pieces can add up to it.

Z. Omb

For observers familiar with the source symbol, yes.

The layout introduces another problem.

In the original flag, the chevron visually points inward.

Here, the additional stripes sit horizontally at the sides.

That removes the directional geometry entirely.

Records

Does that change the meaning?

Z. Omb

Potentially the emphasis.

Records

Not the identity?

Z. Omb

Those are separate questions.

The colors can preserve reference even if the original directional structure is lost.

That means symbol identity and symbol composition are not necessarily the same thing.

Omb proposes a set of increasingly transformed versions:

original Progress Pride flag
→ same colors, no chevron
→ decorative frame like this edition
→ colors separated into disconnected groups
→ only rainbow + trans colors
→ only approximate color families

Records

At some point it's just a colorful pattern.

Z. Omb

Yes.

Records

And we want to know where.

Z. Omb

Precisely.

Omb:

That is unusually accurate.
